Diamond Archery Infinite Edge Pro Bow Review

Our ancestors used stones, clubs, spears, and bows to hunt and survive. It is a primeval feeling to hold a bow in your hand and stare down the bullseye.

Today, not only is it a competitive sport, but archery is also a stress buster for some. The whiz of the arrow as it speeds towards the target is a sight to behold indeed!

There are different types of bows: traditional, recurve, takedown, longbow, crossbow, and compound bows. The bow we are going to review today is one of the best compound bows: the Diamond Archery Infinite Edge Pro.

What to Look for in a Compound Bow

Before I get into the particulars of the Infinite Edge Pro Bow, I want to quickly summarize the important aspects that constitute a good compound bow:

–       Draw length:

When you stand with your hands extended to your sides, the length between the tips of your middle fingers of both hands is your wingspan. Divide that number by 2.5 to get your draw length. Draw length increases your precision and accuracy. It is especially important to know your draw length since compound bows come in a variety of draw lengths. Remember, the bow must fit you well and you must not try to fit into it.

–       Axle to axle length:

This is the distance between the two wheel-like parts attached to the bow’s tips. A longer length is more forgiving of longer-range shots. So choose a length that will fit the activity of your choice – sport or hunting.

–       Draw weight:

The greater the draw weight, the farther you will shoot. Of course, with recent advancements in technologies, bows let you start with low draw weights and go higher as you progress.

–       Eye dominance:

Another important aspect to keep in mind is if you will shoot the arrow with your right hand or left. This is based on eye dominance – again, right or left. If you tend to use your right eye for sight, you will release the arrow with your right. If your left eye is used to seek your target, the release of the arrow will be with your left hand.

Diamond Archery Infinite Edge Pro

With this in mind, let us now look at the new Diamond Archery Infinite Edge Pro Bow. The Infinite Edge Pro is a high-quality compound bow. The makers have taken inspiration from their previous line, the Infinite Edge. It can be used for hunting, target practice, and bow fishing.

The bow:

The Infinite Edge Pro has all-new cam systems. This means your draw-cycle is one super-smooth movement. The draw length is between 13 inches all the way to 31 inches. As explained before, this helps you progress from the lowest setting. It is suitable for young archers as well.

The draw weight adjustability of the bow ranges between 5 lbs to 70 lbs. Like I previously noted, the draw weight helps you shoot farther.

The bow is lightweight and comes fitted with Octane brand factory strings. A compound bow uses cables and cams to store the kinetic energy and reduce the holding weight at full draw. The let-off is a percentage of the overall full draw. To add, let-off lets shooters pan shoot more accurately. Effective let-off for the Diamond Infinite Edge Pro is 80%. This means if you are going to hold the bow at full draw longer, the bow wouldn’t feel as heavy as it is otherwise.

The Draw Weight:

Given the range of this bow, it is both suitable for both backyard target practice and open field competition. In the hands of an experienced hunter, you can see how this will help you stay on top of the target. The draw weight came to 70 lbs when it was shipped to me, so you may have to adjust that once you are ready to use it. But I have read reviews where the bow was shipped with different draw weights. So it is best to get it checked and adjust it based on your preference.

The bow also accelerates your arrow to up to 310 ft/sec. I haven’t hunted big game with this, and mostly use it for target shooting and sometimes for wild turkey. In the right setting, I am sure this can be used for most game here in the USA.

Stability:

The bow comes with a 6” octane stabilizer. The stabilizer reduces vibration and noise made by the bow and the other accessories. In shots of longer length, the stabilizer’s use is more evident. All bow models balance differently, so the stabilizer that comes with the bow goes a long way to help decrease hand shock and increase accuracy. The Infinity Pro Edge has low recoil and shoots arrows very smoothly. The solid back wall lends consistency to your full draw position.

The Accessories:

The kit includes a quiver which takes some breaking in. It can also hold 5 arrows; however, the package does not include arrows. It is super easy to take the bow to a shop and customize your arrows based on your draw length.

Another feature I would like to emphasize is that the Diamond Infinite Edge Pro comes with a sight. It is equipped for 3 different distances. As you use the bow, you will definitely feel that you can do with a better sight. Go for it, but the bow’s sight is good to start with. The kit comes equipped with a tube peep sight and spins into alignment with your sight.

I am a right-hand shooter. However, the Infinite Edge Pro also has a bow for left-handed shooters. At the moment, they come in three different colors – Black Ops, Mossy Oak Country, and Pink Blaze. I purchased the Black Ops and the finish is pretty nice.

The package also includes a wrist sling. Now, we all know that when the bow leaps forward on shoot, it’s the wrist sling that keeps it contained. You do not need to worry about gripping the bow, the sling keeps it in check.

Bow Release

Now, if you are used to shooting with a release, then you may have to purchase one because it is not part of the package.

Release aids coupled with the wrist sling drastically help you reduce muscle tension while holding the bow. It’s a personal preference, and I have used one with my previous bows and for this as well. You have tons of options online, and it is also available for purchase at most archery and bow shops.

Finally, I have to talk about the price. The Diamond Infinite Edge Pro is reasonably priced and ships free with the kit.

Bow Maintenance:

Every bow can last a lifetime, provided you care for it.

You can perform simple inspections every time you shoot. These checks include evaluating the stability of the grip, and proper installation of accessories. Other than this, always keep your bowstrings supple and wax them.

If you see slight frays or tears, replace the string right away. Not only should you pay attention to the area where you nock your arrow to prevent damage, but you should also look at the strings on the cams.

Overlooking a faulty string could prove to be a very expensive mistake. Apart from using your eyes, you must also use your ears. When you listen to the arrow release, if there’s a lot of noise, you know you need to inspect the bow more carefully. Vibrations are another indicator that your bow needs a tune-up.

Here is an in depth guide to compound bow maintenance I wrote.

Dust Protection

I find that this bow also accumulates dust. If you are outside constantly, do not forget to wipe down well (which can also help with water build up). Dust between the strings and cams will affect your draw length and shooting form. You can invest in a good case, or if you feel you do not need one, you can always hang your bow.

General Care

Besides this, general rules of using a bow also apply. Don’t be that person that dry fires the bow without an arrow – you will break the bow! Also, practice in a safe space. It seems like a no-brainer, but look up how many archery accidents there are. Use the right grain of arrow. A light arrow on a hefty bow will leave a lot of kinetic energy when released.

A final piece of advice. Remember how I kept saying your bow would have to fit you and not the other way around? Because the bows are uniquely made to fit each person, sharing bows throws off the specs all the time. So be careful about sharing your bow. The same goes for bows that you get for your children. It is good for them to start with a bow. But ensure that you adjust the draw weight as they grow.

Conclusion:

I started archery as a hobby when I was a boy. Slowly as my hobby and skill level progressed, I experimented with recurve bows, and compound bows. As my wingspan grew, so did the distance between the target and where I stood. I do spend a lot of time researching bows and arrows and different techniques to improve my skill. Besides consistency of practice, good caliber bows and a good grain of arrows make a huge difference.

Whenever you get a bow, always factor in several aspects of use and need. As mentioned, the Infinite Edge Pro is a versatile carbon fiber compound bow that works for both beginners and experienced archers.

I would like to reiterate some of the features here again, quickly:

  • IBO speed: 310 fps

Once again let me remind you, some of these factors grow with you. So look for a bow that you can work on. Remember to choose wisely. Do your research and invest carefully. Visit a few stores, talk to the store technicians (they are always glad to help) and read up on the bows themselves. I now have a few questions for you – what kind of bow do you own? What do you use it for? Do you have any tips or tricks to share that will take our marksmanship to the next level?
